This will surprise absolutely no one, but my favorite part of Dragon*Con 2010 had to be the costumes. I saw people dressed as characters from everything from “Firefly” to “Lord of the Rings” to “Watchmen.” Some were extremely well-made — I couldn’t quite capture the Ghostbusters with ultra-realistic proton packs that lit up — while others contented themselves with wearing clever t-shirts. (By the way, have any of you figured out the meaning of Tracy’s tee yet?) So, without any further ado, here are a few of my favorite Dragon*Con costumes.
5. The best part of capturing this guy wasn’t his pitch-perfect costume, but the oh-so-slight smile he flashed me when I addressed him as “Gandalf.”
4. These women looked so much like “Glee” cheerleaders Brittany and Santana that, for a split second, I thought I’d wandered into the most meta photo shoot in the history of fandom.
3. As great as this costume was — look at the detail! — I appreciated how “in character” this guy was even more. He was chomping on that cigar like the government paid him to do it! And that’s the best cat-that-ate-the-canary smile I’ve ever seen.
2. I literally chased this woman through two hotels to get her photo. Surprisingly, she didn’t find that at all creepy.
1. The funniest thing about this group was how sweet and innocent they all looked. They kept the chants to a minimum, but the signs they sported spoke volumes. Truthfully, though, this apple-cheeked bunch had me at “Thank God for Hep-D.”
